Search Engine Optimization
When using an online search engine, you'll
mainly get two types of
search results: natural (sometimes called
organic) results and paid (or sponsored)
results.
Last month's issued highlighted your Bonus
Offers page, which included ways for you to
get into the sponsored results using free
credits from Google®, Yahoo®, and
MSN®. However, as you may realize from
looking at your own personal experience, the
natural results are just as important.
Search engines send out "spiders" (also known
as robots or crawlers) to scan pages on the
Internet and collect information for their
databases. One of the important things
spiders first look at is your meta
information.
Meta Information
Make sure to include meta tags in the code of
all your pages, plus fill in your title tag
information. These look like:
<title>Your Product Name or Service -
Location such as Home or Contact Us
page</title>
<meta name="description" content="A sentence
or two describing your website" />
<meta name="keywords" content="words or
phrases that describe your site, separated by
commas, for example, search engine, keywords,
search engine optimization, meta tags,
natural results" />
This code should be inserted in between your
<head>...</head>
tags found near the top of your
page's code. You can
use the Edit tool from the File Manager in your GCC
to access the code for the pages in your
public httpdocs folder.

information, the PromoPak,
which comes free with
every account, has valuable tools to help you
